Star forwards from throughout Europe are beginning to move up the goal scoring charts, intensifying the competition for the Euro 2024 Golden Boot.
At Euro 2012, you needed just three goals to win the trophy. However, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring five goals to earn another piece of individual hardware at Euro 2020, it is unlikely that you will win the trophy this time around. Though it will undoubtedly alter in the upcoming games, Euro 2024 has been a little slow in terms of single players scoring many times.
Throughout the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024, only one player has scored more goals than Cody Gakpo (6): Kylian Mbappe (9). Gakpo has three goals to tie for the lead in the Euro 2024 Golden Boot competition, although his six goals in the last two major championships have come from different games. As a result, Dennis Bergkamp (10), Robin van Persie (8), and Wesley Sneijder (7) are the only three Dutch players to have scored in more than one game at a major tournament.
The Liverpool attacker opened the scoring in the Oranje’s 2-1 victory over Poland and then added more in the 2-3 group stage loss to Austria. Gakpo then helped the Netherlands secure a quarterfinal berth by scoring and providing an assist against Romania in the Round of 16.
