Italian news outlet, Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Mauro Icardi has decided to sue Inter Milan for €1.5m worth in damages and a place in the club’s first team.
It was only last week when Antonio Conte stated that the Argentine was not a disturbance in his dressing room. Tensions between the club and the player seemed to have calmed down when Icardi was given the number 7 jersey.
However, that is far from the truth as the current events continue to unfold at the San Siro. Icardi was left out of tactical training by Antonio Conte and it was unclear, how much the new boss will use him in the 2019/20 campaign after the additions of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to the attacking ranks.
One of Italy’s most accomplished sports lawyers, Mattia Grassani told Corriere dello Sport, that a club cannot be forced into utilising any player for a certain training activity. He said, “The technical sphere of activity is exclusively a matter for the coach and his backroom staff, without the chance for anyone to interfere from elsewhere. It doesn’t seem correct to me to suggest any athlete has a right to take part in preparatory matches or tactical exercises no matter what. It would clash with the notion of the coach having complete autonomy when he takes charge of training sessions.”
Inter CEO, Beppe Marotta and vice-president, Javier Zanetti have not changed their stance on Icardi. The Nerazzurri have no plans of using Icard in the upcoming campaign and are looking to move him out to a different club.
