Why Dani Olmo joined Bundesliga side RB Leipzig instead of AC Milan

The Spain international was all set to leave for Italy.

However, eventually, he ended up in the Bundesliga.

Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Dani Olmo is set to join RB Leipzig for a record fee, Sportske novosti reports. Olmo left Dinamo’s mid-season training camp in Rovinj and headed for Zagreb. The 21-year-old Spaniard has undergone a medical and will soon sign a deal with the German club.

Dinamo coach Nenad Bjelica confirmed the news to media on Thursday: “From all the offers he got he decided to go with RB Leipzig. I believe he will show there what he showed at Dinamo and will improve in the best possible way there. He farewelled his teammates today and was very emotional. This is life and we wish him the best.”

Prior to this, he was strongly linked to a move to Italian struggling side AC Milan. It wasn’t the first time the 21-year-old had been linked with a San Siro switch, but he proved too expensive over the summer. It’s now been revealed that the agents’ commission requests of €11 million for a January switch were deemed excessive and that is one of the reasons a transfer failed to materialize.

In fact, the Rossoneri now feel as if the Croatian media intentionally kept the name of the club linked with Olmo, so as to force a higher bid out of the competition. And they succeeded in that, according to Tuttomercatoweb. Instead of Leipzig paying the asking price of €20 million, they ended up spending a total sum of €50m (€35m, plus €15m in bonuses).

In addition, it is the Spanish midfielder reportedly dreamed of playing in Germany and finds the Bundesliga an exciting league where he will develop even more.
