A big hit for Ancelotti’s side.
Kevin Malcuit’s season is over after the Napoli defender damaged knee ligaments during the 1-1 draw with SPAL on Sunday.
It was confirmed on Monday that Malcuit had injured both the ACL and medial meniscus in his right knee against SPAL at the Stadio Mazza. The Napoli full-back fell awkwardly when his knee seemed to buckle, but after some quick tests with the medical staff and some “magic spray,” he was given the all-clear to continue.
A few minutes later, Malcuit crumpled to the ground in agony and had to be helped off the pitch.
The Frenchman, who left the field in tears, has undergone surgery and is not expected to play again for Napoli this season. Consequently, Ancelotti will have to turn back to Faouzi Ghoulam, who has fallen out of favor in recent weeks.
He becomes the fourth defensive casualty for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, with Mario Rui, Nikola Maksimovic and Elseid Hysaj also out. On Sunday, Arkadiusz Milik’s opener was cancelled out by Jasmin Kurtic, as SPAL stopped Napoli closing on the top three with a surprise stalemate.
