In a truly entertaining Old-Firm derby, Rangers have come out on top after a close 2-2 draw and eventually winning 5-4 on Penalties.

In an amazing semi-final, they will advance to face Hibernian in an all-Championship Scottish final.

Celtic came from behind twice, and were so close to winning it in the dying seconds but Griffiths’ free-kick seemed to hit the angle of post and bar, and Foderingham just about managed to get his fingertips to it, and push it away rather than deflecting it into his own goal.

On 16 minutes, Halliday crossed the ball back in from the right, Celtic defender Brown did a poor job of clearing, and the ball fell perfectly for Miller, who tucked it nicely into the net from close range, giving Rangers the lead.

Just after the break Celtic began to apply pressure, winning corner after corner. This pressure eventually led to the equaliser, as Patrick Roberts floated a cross over from the left hand side and Sviatchenko met the ball it with an impressive header from just outside the six-yard box on the 50 minute mark.

The standard 90 minutes finished 1-1, leaving fans on the edge of their seats as the match went into extra time. After only 6 minutes had gone by in extra time, McKay scored an unbelievable 25-yarder which arrowed off his right foot and into the top corner of the goal, leaving Celtic stunned and Ranger’s fans ecstatic.

This lead only lasted a mere ten minutes however, as on 106 minutes some brilliant play from Tierney down the left saw him play an inch-perfect pass back to the substitute Rogic, who drilled an impressive right-footed shot into the net from just inside the 18 yard box.

The match then went to penalties, which was an extremely even encounter much like the previous 120 minutes of football, as it went into sudden death, with Rangers eventually winning 5-4- after Nicky Law placed his penalty impressively and Celtic’s Rogic missed the target.

Shoot out in summary:

Rangers scorers: Halliday, McKay, Wallace, Zelalem, Law

Rangers Misses: Tavernier, Clark

Celtic scorers: Mulgrew, Biton, Griffiths, Lustig

Celtic Misses: McGregor, Brown, Rogic

Rangers fans finally have something to look forward to, as they now have a Scottish League Cup final to look forward to, as well as Scottish Premiership football to enjoy next season. It has certainly been a turbulent few years for Rangers, but it seems that things have finally fallen into place and things are looking up for the club.
