@AntoGriezmann has informed the club that he will not continue at Atlético de Madrid next season – This was what the Atleti fans were subjected to last night via the club’s official social media account.
It has happened. Grizzy has decided his future and it will be away from Wanda Metropolitano. Griezmann was poised to leave the club last summer after the FIFA 2018 World Cup and join Barcelona but the Frenchman decided to continue at Atletico albeit it now seems, it was only for one season.
Griezmann has not yet revealed where he intends to play next season’s football, but it is more likely than not that he will be joining Messi and company at Nou Camp.
The player wrote an emotional farewell message to the fans. Here it is.
“After speaking to Cholo and Miguel Angel, I wanted to speak to the fans that have always supported me,” said the Frenchman in an address to the club’s supporters.
“I’ve chosen to explore new challenges. It’s been a tough decision to make, but it’s what I feel I need.
“I want to thank your for all your support throughout these past five years, winning my first trophies as a professional.
“I will always remember you, I will always keep you in my heart. It’s never easy for a player to express all these emotions, and I just wanted you to know as soon as possible.
“Thanks again for everything. It’s been five amazing years in which I’ve been trying my best to take pics with you, home and away. Thank you once again from the bottom of my heart.”
Griezmann will be seen for the final time in an Atleti shirt this weekend against Levante.
