With just two La Liga matches in the book, James will be joining several players on the medical table.

Real Madrid have confirmed the muscle injury of James Rodríguez in an official statement on the club’s website.

Already this year, Ferland Mendy, Rodrygo Goes, Eden Hazard, Brahim Diaz, Marco Asensio, Dani Carvajal, Thibaut Courtois, and Luka Jovic have picked up knocks that have forced them to miss both matches and team training. While Courtois, Jovic, and Carvajal have returned, the three new signings from the summer remain out of action.

Now another Real Madrid star, James Rodriguez is set to miss Colombia’s games in the USA during the next international break after picking up a calf muscle injury in Saturday’s 1-1 La Liga draw with Valladolid.

“After the tests carried out today on our player James Rodríguez by the Real Madrid Medical Services he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the right soleus. His recovery will continue to be assessed”, read the statement.

It was the 57th minute of action in the Colombian’s first match back in the Santiago Bernabeu since May of 2017, when he was forced off the pitch. He looked like he had never left to go to Bayern Munich for two season on loan as he slotted in nicely alongside Casemiro and Toni Kroos in the midfield.

The 28-year-old will now miss 3-4 weeks of action, which rules him out of Madrid’s La Liga trip to Villarreal next weekend, and Los Cafeteros’ friendlies against Brazil and Venezuela in Miami and Tampa on  7 and 11 September, with a possible return against Levante at the Bernabeu on 14 September.

The former Monaco star had been linked with Napoli and Atletico Madrid upon his return to the Spanish capital from a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich. But, according to Corriere dello Sport and AS Colombia, AC Milan has emerged as the latest club interested in the midfielder’s services, whose agent has met with Madrid and let them know his client wants to leave the club this week.

Club official Zvonimir Boban is expected in Spain to hold talks over Rodriguez and Atletico Madrid’s Angel Correa. Talks with Real Madrid’s leadership over James will begin, if the Italian football club fails to reach an agreement with Atletico on Correa.
