The first big acquisition made by Newcastle United this summer was Anthony Elanga. The talented winger is anxious to move to St. James’ Park, but Nottingham Forest is trying desperately to hold onto him.

Forest had previously refused to sell a long-term Eddie Howe target that NUFC had attempted to sign a year earlier.

Nevertheless, Anthony Elanga eventually joined Newcastle United in July 2025 in a reported £55 million deal, with £52 million guaranteed and an additional £3 million in potential future add-ons.

The Nottingham Forest winger has had inconsistent play for Newcastle United thus far as he gets used to Eddie Howe’s expectations and demands, as well as his new environment and teammates. The two Champions League games, in my opinion, are the obvious highlights.

Elanga was Newcastle’s best and most threatening player in the first half against Barcelona. The visitors were exposed by his quickness and straight running. Gordon and Barnes, in particular, had two excellent chances, but neither was able to complete the finish that Anthony Elanga’s set-ups deserved.

Sweden forward comments on his Newcastle United form

Prior to the matches against Switzerland and Kosovo, Elanga was speaking while playing for Sweden on international duty. The Newcastle star, who will play alongside Alexander Isak in the upcoming days, can anticipate playing a significant part.

Isak is still trying to get his season off to a strong start, although he left Newcastle for Liverpool on deadline day. The striker’s start at Anfield has been sluggish because he spent most of preseason fighting for a trade.

Now, both Isak and Elanga are hoping to use the international break to truly rediscover their peak performance. Before Elanga returns to Newcastle, strong performances against Switzerland and Kosovo might just give him more self-assurance. Magpies supporters want to see him back to his best form as soon as possible.
