Graham Potter’s initial Sweden team includes Alexander Isak of Liverpool but excludes Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres. Gyokeres is expected to undergo more testing this week due to concerns that he may have suffered a hamstring injury during the Gunners’ Saturday Premier League victory against Burnley.
The 27-year-old was not there as Arsenal defeated Slavia Prague on Tuesday in the Champions League. Isak, who hasn’t played for the Reds since October 22 due to a groin injury, has been chosen for the World Cup qualifying matches against Slovenia on November 18 and Switzerland on November 15.
Former Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham manager Potter nominated a number of England-based players, including Newcastle winger Anthony Elanga and Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who is recuperating from a concussion.
Less than a month after his dismissal by the Hammers, on October 20, Potter was first appointed by Sweden on a temporary basis. Following Sweden’s 1-0 defeat to Kosovo on October 13, which prevented them from automatically qualifying from their World Cup group, former manager Jon Dahl Tomasson was fired.
Viktor Gyokeres left out of Graham Potter’s first Sweden squad
Due to worries about the forward’s injuries, Graham Potter’s initial Sweden team did not include Arsenal star Viktor Gyokeres; nonetheless, Alexander Isak was included despite his recent absence for Liverpool. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed concerns over Gyokeres’ fitness on Monday after the £64 million attacker failed to show up for their Champions League game against Slavia Prague.
Potter stated that Lucas Bergvall, a midfielder for Tottenham, and Isak are both anticipated to be ready next week, although he hinted that Bergvall might not be able to finish both games. “As of right now, they are available,” Potter stated. Lucas had a concussion, but perhaps he will be able to play when the time comes.
“Alex will be in Spain on Monday and should be able to play a little this weekend.” Although he is available, he is not prepared to play two ninety-minute matches. Due to a groin injury, Sak hasn’t played for Liverpool since October 22.
