The Frenchman’s exit is complete after just one season.
Turkish football powerhouse Galatasaray signed French midfielder Steven Nzonzi from Italy’s Roma on Friday.
The French midfielder who played five times during France’s campaign in Russia in 2018, made 39 appearances for the Stadio Olimpico side last season.
The Turkish Super Lig champion has the option to sign the World Cup-winning midfielder for €16 million before June 30 next year.
“As part of the agreement, Galatasaray have the option to make the transfer permanent, prior to the expiration of the loan, for a fixed fee of €16 million,“ Roma said in an official statement.
“The club also have the option to extend the loan for a further 12 months, until 30 June 2021, for a loan fee of €500,000.“
Nzonzi‘s game time next season at Roma would have been hampered with the arrivals of midfielders Bryan Cristante, Amadou Diawara and Jordan Veretout.
Whilst, Galatasaray have been looking for a defensive midfielder since the exit of Brazilian player Fernando Reges in July. Ivory Coast playmaker Jean-Michael Serri and Netherlands winger Ryan Babel are among the other new faces who have joined the Turkish champions ahead of the new campaign
The 30-year-old won the 2018 World Cup with France. In addition, he lifted the Europa League trophy in 2016, during his time as a Sevilla player. He made 39 appearances in Serie A last season, scoring once, as the Giallorossi finished sixth.
