Chelsea are expected to confirm the signing of Fiorentina defender Marcos Alonso within the next 24 hours, with a fee believed to be in the region of £24million.
The Spaniard has flown over to London from Italy for a medical with the Blues.
New manager Antonio Conte is desperate to sign a left-back before transfer deadline day after allowing Baba Rahman to join Bundesliga side Schalke on loan earlier on in the transfer window.
Alonso, 25, has had two spells in the Premier League with Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland.
The former Spain U19 international impressed bosses all over Europe last year with a solid individual campaign at left-back for Italian giants Fiorentina.
Chelsea had a £20m bid rejected for the Real Madrid Academy product earlier this week.
The Blues are close to finalising a £24m deal for the defender and Fiorentina have let Alonso fly to London to undergo his medical ahead of his big money move.
He can also play as a midfielder which will intrigue Conte even more.
