Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini could be in charge at West London next season

Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini has been lined up as a shock contender to replace Jose Mourinho as Chelsea’s next permanent manager.

The Blues have appointed Guus Hiddink as interim manager to see out the remainder of the this season.

Owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly working very hard to find a suitable candidate to replace the Special One, and Mancini has been shortlisted.

Italian job

Mancini did enjoy a successful time in England, leading Manchester City to their first Premier League title, an FA Cup and Community Shield during his four years.

Inter Milan currently top of the Serie A and Mancini appears settled but Chelsea would be willing to offer him a two-year contract worth £6.3million per-year.

Other candidates that have been shortlisted are Pep Guardiola, who announced he will be leaving Bayern in the summer, but one of the Manchester clubs appear to be his likely destination.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is the bookies’ favourite to be the head coach at Stamford Bridge next season but this may  also require a big payout by Abramovich.
