Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has backed Manchester United’s home boy Marcus Rashford to become the main man up front for the Red Devils ahead of the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.

Carragher said, “The form he’s in at the moment, if he continues that, they won’t need to buy anyone else or bring Romelu Lukaku back into the side. He can be United’s main man. I was at this ground to see England against Switzerland and we debated that night whether Rashford could ever be that man. I was doubtful of that but what’s happened under the interim manager – we talk about an audition for the manager but Rashford can make himself United’s centre-forward, show he can be the man to take you to a title or a Champions League.”

The forward who scored the winning goal in today’s 1-0 win over Leicester City said: “I don’t think anyone grows up wanting to be just a striker nowadays, the game has changed and you want to be an all-round forward – to play on the left, right, number 10. What’s happened in my career so far has enabled me to do that. Getting the goal today is good and we have to keep improving, keep doing it more and more.”
