Belgium international is in demand from Europe’s elite clubs

Wolfsburg winger Kevin De Bruyne has admitted his agent has held “informal talks” with Manchester City regarding a move.

It is no secret the 23-year-old has impressed immensely in the Bundesliga this season, with the record amount of assists for a player in a single Bundesliga campaign.

And with City looking to rebuild an ageing squad with an average age of 28.9, De Bruyne would be a perfect acquisition for Manuel Pellegrini’s men.

Competition for De Bruyne signature

But with the immense talent the Belgian possesses and his hot form, since leaving Chelsea for £18 million in January 2014, there is no surprise City face competition from Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

It is understood the Citizens may have to pay £40 million to acquire his services, according to Manchester Evening News, with the De Bruyne making 21 assist in 33 league appearances last season.

The Bundesliga Player of the Year is ready to make a return to England, despite joining Wolfsburg on a five-year deal.

However, despite being one of Pellegrini’s main targets, De Bruyne said: “I know there are some informal contacts, but we said to everybody, ‘You have to go to Wolfsburg, not to me and that’s the way to go.’”

The Belgian is taking a sensible approach to a potential transfer, unlike fellow City target Raheem Sterling at Liverpool, who has become unsettled at Anfield, which could lead to Pellegrini spend big again on another young winger.
