Manchester City have reportedly agreed to sign Ruben Dias from Benfica.
The Citizens have been on the hunt to revamp their defence all summer. They began with an early signing of Nathan Ake from Bournemouth.
However, it was always clear from that deal that Ake wont be the final signing in defence. They have Otamendi ageing, with Stones out of contention. It left Laporte as a prime choice centre back but with no partner.
So City went out in hunt of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli but it ended up proving too much so they instead have now agreed to sign Ruben Dias.
Benfica have released an official document confirming the deal. Dias will move to City for a reported fee of €70 million with Nicolas Otamendi moving the opposite way for a fee of €15 million!
Dias is a much less proven option than Otamendi although he does have a bright future ahead of him. Dias has a good technique and will be a natural fit to the backline at City.
The player will know that adapting to a defence playing a highline in the pacey Premier League will be risky and will have to have a thick skin to play with the right mentality.
