Harry Maguire has had a fantastic few years and the defender has now reflected on a succesful period with the national team.

It has gone up incredibly quick the ladder for Maguire’s career, who was playing in the second division for Hull City only two seasons back. The defender then joined Leicester City and impressed for the Foxes to get a national call up for the 2018 World Cup. He became a major part of the English team which went on to the semi-finals of the tournament to everyone’s surprise and has now topped the group with Croatia and Spain to qualify for the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League.

Maguire has been incredibly impressive and this is what he had to say: “It’s been an incredible year. To play every game in the Premier League last season was important for me. Having signed from Hull, receiving the Player of the Year award at Leicester and then going to the World Cup and reaching the semi-finals, it’s been a great year for myself. Gareth Southgate brings out the best in players in big tournaments and big pressure games. I think that when the team is doing well it helps individual performances. We were all playing with a lot of confidence and credit to Gareth for that as he instilled confidence in us. It was a great summer for us all and hopefully there’s many more of those to come.”
