Lovren is the weakest link for Liverpool: Babb

Phil Babb believes Dejan Lovren is the weakest link for Liverpool this season.

The Reds were on a rampant run until they were undone yesterday by a determined Manchester City side. Dejan Lovren was at fault partially for both goals and many have criticized how the Croatian, is the weak link next to the dominating Virgil Van Dijk in the Liverpool side.

The World Cup finalist has made several famous claims in the last few months where he regarded himself as the best central defender in the world before saying that Liverpool are good enough to go unbeaten throughout the league. It would now seem somewhat ironical to say the least as the Croatian is left to rue his mistakes, which led to his otherwise brilliant side’s downfall last night.

Not that this is the first time Lovren has been called out for sloppy defending. The centre-back is not only slow athletically but takes a rather long time to read the game, which is criminal in the fast pace of the Premier League.

Phil Babb has voiced everyone’s thoughts by saying,  “To say that Aguero specifically targeted him, I am not so sure. But, if you look across that back line, you would probably say the weakest link is Dejan Lovren – and that proved to be [the case], pretty much last night.”

If Liverpool do end up winning the league, we do hope Lovren realises how little and possibly damaging his contribution was on the pitch.
