AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca is a step closer to a £20m move to Arsenal after the Gunners opened contract talks , according to reports.

Colombian ace Bacca certainly knows where the goal is, having scored 26 goals in 56 appearances since joining AC Milan last year.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to bolster his attacking options in the upcoming transfer window, and clearly sees Bacca, 30, as a potential solution.

Wenger is a long-time admirer of Bacca, having tried to sign him last year from Sevilla, when he chose to head to Italy instead.

Arsenal have mainly deployed Alexis Sanchez through the middle this season and have the option of Olivier Giroud’s aerial ability off the substitutes’ bench. But the France international and his fellow backups have struggled for form, and often fitness, as he, Danny Welbeck and Lucas Perez have all been unavailable at times this term.

Milan coach Vincenzo Montella was keeping his cards close to his chest, when quizzed about Bacca’s San Siro future.

He said: ‘Can Bacca leave in January? I’m sorry to disappoint you, but it’s too early to talk about it.

‘We won’t talk about the market. For now, Bacca is a Milan player.’
