If reports from Spanish outlet Sport are to be believed, Arsenal have opened talks with Spanish champions Barcelona over a season-long loan deal for Malcolm.

The Brazilian joined the Blaugrana for ÂŁ37m from French outfit Bordeaux last summer. However, the 22-year-old was restricted to a bit-part role, making only 15 appearances and scoring just once under Ernesto Valverde last season. And now, it seems Unai Emery is keen to offer Malcolm the chance to resuscitate his career with a loan move to the Emirates.

The Arsenal gaffer has been given just ÂŁ45m to spend in the market this summer, according to reports. As a result, the club have found it hard to land players owing to the soaring prices of their targets.

The Gunners want a goalscoring winger this summer and are said to be eyeing a move for Wilfried Zaha this summer. However, Crystal Palace’s ÂŁ80m evaluation of the Englishman has put them off the radar.

Malcolm represents a value-for-money solution over Zaha, but it remains to be seen if Barcelona are willing to loan out the player.
