This midfielder has plenty of Premier League experience

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Mikel Arteta could well be Pep Guardiola’s first signing at Manchester City.

The Spaniard, who is the Gunners’ official club captain, is nearing the end of his footballing career at 34 years of age and eventually wants to go into coaching.

And Wenger stated this morning that it’s likely he may join City in a player-coach role, in order to help out his friend Guardiola with his vast experience of England’s top flight.

Arteta could also move to Manchester as a free agent because his contract at the Emirates Stadium expires this summer.

‘I still think he can play’

“It is possible, he’s free to decide what he wants to do and have some time to reflect on that. I still think he can play,” admitted Wenger when asked about Arteta’s link with City.

“It is true he is out of contract and it is a good opportunity for me to thank him for his contribution not only as a player but as a leader as well.”

“I still think he can play and in the last month he has come back to a good physical condition. He would still be a very good player, everywhere.”
