Arsenal star Theo Walcott has been told by manager Arsene Wenger that he’s free to leave the club in January.

Walcott joined the Gunners 11 years ago at 16-years-old but has failed to live up to expectations.

Walcott was supposed to become England’s next star and Arsenal’s next Thierry Henry all those years ago after making his debut for England at 16-years-old. But he never really lived up to his potential and hype.

The 28-year-old has struggled to make the team this season and has only made three appearances off the bench.

And according to reports, Wenger plans to sell Walcott in order to gain funds to sign a new player in January.

And in an interesting twist of fate, Walcott’s old club, Southampton are interested in signing him. Walcott left Southampton 11 years ago to join Arsenal for £12m.

Although West Ham are also interested in signing the Englishman.

Walcott did have a brief period of consistency midway through last season and it’s been a surprise that he has failed to make any impact this season. He managed to score 10 goals and made two assists in 28 appearances last season which was actually his highest return of goals since the 2012/13 season wherein he scored 14 goals.

According to reports, Wenger is intent on letting several fringe players go in order to  raise funds to replace the inevitable departures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Mathieu Debuchy, Carl Jenkinson and Calum Chambers are all on the chopping block to be sold in January.
