The Bavarians are monitoring the midfielder’s contract talks

Bayern Munich are targeting Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil, after the Germany international put contract talks on hold until after the European Championships.

Arsenal are prepared to make the 27-year-old the highest-paid player in the club’s history, and offer him ÂŁ200,000-a-week – ÂŁ60,000-a-week better off than his current ÂŁ140,000-a-week deal – but he has yet to agree terms.

However, while the Gunners anxiously await Ozil’s decision, Bayern are prepared to make a bid for the player and offer him a return to his native Germany.

Ozil reportedly said that he would be keen on a return to the Bundesliga in the future, back in December, and with Arsenal having picked up just two FA Cups since joining the club in 2013, interest from the Bundesliga champions could sway the German’s attention.

With two years remaining on his contract, and in the peak years of his career, Ozil will be seeking assurances about what direction the club is going in, with the Gunners having gone without winning the league for 12 years.

The German finished the campaign with 19 Premier League assists, more than any other player in the Premier League, but his tally dropped in the second half of the season, with just four of that tally coming in the last half of the campaign.
