Ex-Bayern star tells Gotze to reunite with Klopp

Former Bayern Munich manager and player Franz Beckenbauer has stated Mario Gotze should join Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who scored Germany’s World Cup-winning goal in 2014, has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool, and Beckenbauer believes it would benefit the player to move to Anfield.

Gotze and Klopp worked together during their days at Borussia Dortmund, where the player lifted the Bundesliga, and it has been widely believed that Klopp is trying to lure the Germany international to Liverpool this summer.

And Beckenbauer has said that, in Gotze’s situation, he too would link up with Klopp on Merseyside.

“I would, in his place, go to a place where I feel comfortable,” Beckenbauer explained.

“I have the impression that Mario has not felt right in Munich and also has not been understood, so that he could show his full potential.

“I would in his place go where I am comfortable and follow in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp.”

It was under Klopp that Gotze broke through into the Dortmund first team, and subsequently earned him a move to Bayern Munich.

However, it has never really worked out for the midfielder at the Allianz Arena, and having been hit by injury this campaign, he has also been left short of game time.

Gotze has netted 14 league goals in 59 appearances, since joining Bayern in 2013, and is understood that Carlo Ancelotti, who will take over from the departing Pep Guardiola, is prepared to let the 23-year-old go this summer.
