Chelsea loan coach Eddie Newton has heaped praise on Andreas Christensen after his stellar performances in the first team.

The 21-year-old has secured a starting spot in the Chelsea defence since coming back from a two year loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Newton told Chelsea TV how proud he was of the young Dane and claimed he’d become the next John Terry.

“He’s done exactly what he needed to do on loan.  He had played at the highest levels in the Bundesliga and the Champions League consistently over two seasons. Got player of the season in the first season.

‘He’s an incredible footballer, one this club should be very proud of and hold on to very tightly because he’s a player we can definitely have here for the next 10 years and be another John Terry, have that same kind of stature, because he has got that ability.”

Newton also said that he had given Christensen the highest mark any player can receive for his loan spell and praised his maturity and composure.

John Terry, also appearing in the film, stated that he had no doubt that Christensen would be a Chelsea first-team player and even admitted that the youngster was faster than him.

Christensen could start in the upcoming match aganist West Ham in what is an important fixture as Manchester City and Manchester United go head-to-head which could result in either team dropping points allowing the Blues back into the title race.
