Swindon Town have signed defender Dion Conroy from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee with the 21-year-old signing a two-and-a-half-year deal.
League One side Swindon Town have signed Chelsea defender Dion Conroy until June 2019 for an undisclosed fee.
Conroy came up through the academy ranks at Chelsea, but has since not managed to make a single senior appearance for the club.
He recently returned to Stamford Bridge after a loan spell with Aldershot, making 15 appearances during his stint.
The 21-year-old is expected to make his debut for the Robins when they play Bristol Rovers in League One, on Saturday.
Conroy was originally under contract with Chelsea until 2018, but has failed to impress the coaches in West London despite being an academy product.
Conroy went to Twitter to thank Chelsea, saying:
“Really tough choice to leave @ChelseaFC today but an opportunity I just couldn’t turn down.
“Conroy joined Chelsea as an Under-13 and developed through our Academy, featuring in our FA Youth Cup and Under-21 Premier League successes in 2014.
The 21-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, spent the first half of the current campaign on loan at Aldershot Town where he made 17 appearances in all competitions.
Swindon are in League One and Conroy will be reunited with Chelsea loanees Charlie Colkett, Fankaty Dabo and Islam Feruz at the County Ground.
We would like to thank Dion for his service and wish him the best for the future.”
