The Premier League could be about to get one of it’s most colourful characters back. Who would have thought it! Chelsea have just tabled a £30 plus million bid for their ex-player David Luiz…and why not! And the 29 year old Brazilian player is keen to come back to Chelsea.
It all makes sense. He is out of favour at PSG, often warming the reserve bench and he was one of the stars of Chelsea’s Champions League success. Indeed he was a great favourite at Stamford Bridge as much for his antics as for his performances. Who can forget such moments as when he got Rafael of Manchester United sent off while smiling to himself on the floor! And then his Brazilian style bullet free kicks similar to Roberto Carlos, sometimes resulting in stunning goals but often hitting the far upper reaches of the stadium.
If he does come there may need to be a peacemaker initially. David Luiz and Diego Costa in the same team! They may speak the same language but so far they do not like each other, on the pitch at least. In the Champions league game two seasons ago between Chelsea and PSG the two players spent most of the time at each others throat for both legs.
Chelsea need defenders badly and have been desperately looking at average players with inflated price tags. So why not pay £30 million for an already tried and trusted player. Watch this space…he could well be starting for Chelsea in their next match against Swansea in ten days time.
