Chelsea are weighing up a deal for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli, according to reports.

He has impressed in Serie A over the last couple of seasons, first for Sampdoria, on loan from Roma,  and now at Milan, making 27 appearances so far this term.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato claims that Chelsea are touting Romagnoli, 21, as a long-term replacement for John Terry this summer.

The Blues are reportedly willing to pay ÂŁ23.7m for the Italian, who appeared at the European Under-21 Championship last year, where Italy were eliminated in the group stage.

Romagnoli can play at centre-back or left-back, and has drawn comparisons to former Milan legend Alessandro Nesta.

There has been no contact made between the two clubs for the defender, but if he does end up at Stamford Bridge next season, he could well be playing under Antonio Conte.

Conte’s representatives were expected to hold talks with Chelsea regarding a deal, with Conte favourite to take over in the summer.
