Jose Mourinho pleaded to the Chelsea board before being sacked: “please do not replace me with Pep Guardiola”, according to reports.

Mourinho was dismissed yesterday from his second spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Monday night’s 2-1 defeat at Leicester City proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Mourinho, with the Blues down in 16th place.

After the Foxes loss, Mourinho admitted that a place in the top four was no longer possible.

Before being sacked, Jose made owner Roman Abramovich promise not to bring in Bayern Munich chief Guardiola as his replacement, claim Don Balon.

Guardiola, quoted at 2/1 with Ladbrokes to take the job, is also linked with Manchester clubs United and City.

He confirmed today he has made his mind up about his plans from next summer, and is expected to make that decision public next week.

One man who does know about Guardiola’s future is Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

An official announcement is expected after Bayern’s Bundesliga clash this weekend with Hannover, but Pep insists he is only thinking about the game.

He said: “Kalle knows absolutely everything. The club, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and I have said time and time again that we will say something after our final game in Hannover, and that’s how things are going to stay.

“I’m just focusing on Hannover, I’ve been watching their games.”
