The Blues have until 29 April to decide on striker’s future
Chelsea must decide whether they wish to sign Radamel Falcao for £38 million by April 29, according to the striker.
The 30-year-old told El Tiempo that Chelsea must decide whether they want to make his deal permanent by the end of next month, after a disastrous spell in west London.
“I am focused on the club and just live in the present,” Falcao said. “Football changes very fast and what today can’t happen, tomorrow can.
“I’m not thinking about what might happen on April 29. My job is to give my best and when the time comes to make decisions, we will analyse everything and see, because everything can change in football.”
Falcao has scored once in 11 appearances while on loan at the Blues, following on from an equally as disappointing campaign with Manchester United last season. And it seems highly unlikely that Roman Abramovich will want to shell out on the Colombian’s large wages after his poor displays this campaign.
A mixture of poor form and injuries has stopped Falcao from becoming a regular at Stamford Bridge, and it is almost certain that Falcao will return to his parent club, AS Monaco.
Staying hopeful
But the former Porto and Atletico Madrid striker isn’t giving up hope on a future in the Premier League.
“Today I think about what Chelsea can do from now to May. I do not look beyond that. Me staying here will depend on many factors, it doesn’t depend just on my decision.
“That’s why I try to give my best in training to have a chance [to play], but this will be discussed when we need to make a final decision.”
With Chelsea searching for a new boss, there are doubts about whether the new man in the Stamford Bridge hot seat will want Falcao in his plans. And the £38 million fee that the Ligue 1 side are demanding looks to big a gamble at this stage, for the Blues to take.
