Crystal Palace have signed Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda on a three-year deal, for an undisclosed fee.

Mandanda’s deal was completed just hours after the Eagles signed Andros Townsend from Newcastle United, with Dwight Gayle going the other way in a separate transfer.

31-year-old Mandanda has made over 400 appearances for the French Ligue 1 club, and been in the French squad at two World Cups and three European Championships. He is a four-time Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year, and

He signed from Le Havre in 2007, initially on loan, before making the deal permanent in 2008.

Palace Chairman Steve Parish said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to bring Steve into the Club. He brings a wealth of experience at both club and international level to us, and boasts a proven track record when it comes to winning trophies.

“I’m sure the Palace fans will enjoy watching him in action for us over the next few years.”
The signings of Townsend and Mandanda are Palace’s first of the season, Townsend arriving in a ÂŁ13m, five-year deal.
Striker Gayle departs for Newcastle for ÂŁ10m, dropping into the Championship for next season after the North-East club’s relegation from the Premier League last season.
