Jamie Carragher says Palace signing Batshuayi a good business
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says Crystal Palace signing Michy Batshuayi is a very good business by the club.
The Eagles signed the Belgian international on loan from Chelsea for the rest of this season. They had to ward off interests from Real Betis, Tottenham and Monaco to sign the striker.
Batshuayi arrived at Stamford Bridge two and half years ago but wasn’t able to make the cut in the Premier League. As a result, he was first loaned out Borussia Dortmund in the second part of last season. In the first half of this campaign, the Belgian plied his trade in Spain with Valencia.
On other hand, Crystal Palace are in of a striker who can lead the line and score goals for them.
Talking about Batshuayi’s move to Selhurst Park, Carragher said: “It was brilliant business. Palace have been crying out for a striker all season.
“The Christian Benteke transfer just hasn’t worked out – I thought that was a really good buy for them at the time – and there is no doubt Batshuayi is an improvement on what they have got.
“I am sure there were other clubs in for him but Chelsea looked at the situation and were maybe quite clever as Palace are coming up against some of their top-four rivals. It’s a great signing for Palace.”
Crystal Palace welcome Fulham on Saturday in a crunch Premier League clash. We will wait and see whether Batshuayi could make his Eagles debut then.
