Van Gaal has lost faith in his fellow countryman

Memphis Depay’s Manchester United career could be coming to a premature end, with Louis Van Gaal ready to let the winger leave this summer.

The Holland international arrived at Old Trafford for ÂŁ31 million in July last year, having helped PSV to the Eredivisie title, and scoring 22 goals along the way – to finish the season as the league’s top scorer.

However, all the hype around the 22-year-old’s move has backfired this season, with the winger having netted just two league goals, as United have once again failed to make a title challenge.

The club held showdown talks with Depay earlier in the week, as they look to make a decision on the Dutchman’s future, and it is understood Van Gaal is happy to let him go.

United set to make a loss

And United are prepared to make a loss on the winger, in order to offload the player to any suitors, with the likes of Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial all impressing in the forward positions this campaign.

There have also been questions about Depay’s off-field antics, which is something that wouldn’t have gone down well with Van Gaal’s disciplined approach to business.

And as the likes of Rashford, Lingard and Martial continue to develop, it is expected that they will only get better – moving Depay further down the pecking order.

The Dutchman has three years to run on his four-year contract, and certainly, at this point, seems unlikely United will activate the option for a further season.
