Toffees preparing for likely departure of John Stones to Chelsea
Everton will make a £5 million bid to Tottenham Hotspur for defender Federico Fazio as a replacement for want-away John Stones.
Everton boss Roberto Martinez has been adamant that the 21-year-old defender would be staying at Goodison Park for the season, despite Chelsea’s high interest in the young English starlet.
Fazio has fell out of favour in north London, giving Everton the chance to take the player on a permanent basis, making way for Stones’ big money move to Stamford Bridge.
Blues determined to capture Everton defender
Chelsea are determined to get the player, with three bids having been rejected, with the last in excess of £30 million. The next bid is believed to be around the £40 million region and potentially players involved in the offer.
Stones handed in a transfer request on Tuesday, but if any deal is to be completed for the player, it may depend on Chelsea’s fierce rivals Tottenham.
Should they agree the sale of Fazio to Everton and the Argentine agree terms with the Toffees, then Chelsea could potentially lure the club into letting Stones go.
