Antonio Conte described Spurs’ five-star display against Everton as ‘amazing in many aspects’

Everton’s crisis worsened on Monday with a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in north London. The Toffees got off to a good start on the night, looking to move away from the relegation zone.

Spurs took the lead after 14 minutes, though, as Michael Keane guided Ryan Sessegnon’s cross into his own net. Three minutes later, Son Heung-min increased Tottenham’s lead with a shot that England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford should have stopped. After bursting away of the Everton defence, Harry Kane made it 3-0 just before halftime.

Frank Lampard’s half-time exhortation had no effect on Tottenham’s assault, as replacement Sergio Reguilon made it four minutes after the interval.

Tottenham’s fifth goal was perhaps their finest, as Kane was set up by an inch-perfect diagonal pass from Matt Doherty. The England captain had it all to do from a tight angle, but his left-footed volley flew beyond Pickford.

Tottenham remain eighth, but are just three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand.

Everton must take action to prevent their relegation. Lampard has only won one of his five Premier League games since taking over in January. The Merseyside club is only one point ahead of 18th-placed Burnley, but they do have a game in hand.
