Leicester keeper would cost Toffees £20m

Everton are still keen on signing Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, despite the Premier League champions demanding £20million.

Leicester have been lining up signings in the face of interest in their title-winning side. They signed Nampalys Mendy ahead of selling N’Golo Kante to Chelsea for £30million and signed Ron-Robert Zieler amid interest in Schmeichel.

The 29-year-old has been in discussions over a new contract but may be tempted by Everton’s new project under Ronald Koeman.

The Toffees have already signed one goalkeeper this summer in Maarten Stekelenburg and have also been linked with Newcastle United’s Tim Krul, who has been made available by the Magpies.

Tim Howard left Everton earlier this summer after a decade on Merseyside and the search for his replacement has proved difficult for the Goodison hierarchy.

As well as Krul, Koeman harbours an interest in Newcastle midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and is determined to beat Tottenham to the talented Dutchman’s signature.
