Five Things Learned From Manchester United vs Arsenal

Manchester United beat Arsenal 3-2 in the Premier League today at Old Trafford, denting the Gunners’ title hopes whilst boosting their own top four ambitions.

Here are five things learned from today’s game:

  1. Marcus Rashford is a star in the making.
He has had unbelievable start to life in the Manchester United first-team. He only knew he was playing against Midtjylland on Thursday when Anthony Martial was injured in the warm-up. And he has not looked back since, with four goals and an assist in his first two games.
     2. United’s home half-time comforts
The Red Devils have been in front after 45 minutes on 249 occasions at their home ground, and not once have they been behind.
     3. Arsenal may have to adapt their style.
Simply trying to walk the ball into the net will not get the Gunners where they want to be. They have the worst ratio of any team in the top flight for shots outside the box – just one in five.
    4. Too many Arsenal players just did not show up
Only Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck really put in a shift for Arsenal today, although Petr Cech did not really have a chance with any of the goals. The likes of Ramsey, Walcott and Sanchez were just not up for the challenge against one of the Gunners’ oldest rivals.
   5. LVG the fall guy
We saw some emotion today from United’s Dutch manager, something we have not been accustomed to. We normally see him observing from his comfy seat in the dugout, so it was almost a refreshing change to see some emotion, when he comically threw himself to the floor, protesting to the fourth official about a dive by Alexis Sanchez.
