Liverpool have a ‘power’ according to Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says ‘there is a power’ at the club, that the Reds are going to win titles in the seasons to come.

The Reds face Villareal in the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday, having knocked out Klopp’s former club, and competition favourites, Borussia Dortmund in late fashion at Anfield, recently.

And Klopp has the same feeling that he had at Dortmund: that there is something special about the club that makes him believe the Reds are going to go on to become very successful.

“I feel there is a power at this club,” said Klopp.

“I felt it when we played Dortmund at Anfield and I saw it in the streets before the game. I believe that there are some clubs who are always more likely to win trophies than other clubs.

“I don’t know where that comes from, but I felt it for the first time when I was at Dortmund. Michael Zorc [sporting director at BVB] told me when Bayer Leverkusen were breathing down our necks at the end of one season that I shouldn’t worry.

“He said they wouldn’t win because Leverkusen never win and that Dortmund were a club that wins titles. I feel that at Liverpool, and I think the supporters do too.”

Klopp likes Europa League

The former Mainz player made a steady start to life at Anfield, before guiding his side to the League Cup final against Manchester City, where they lost on penalties.

However, the club are one round away from the final of the Europa League and enjoys the competition, whilst having been left baffled by England’s attitude to the competition.

“I heard that the image of the Europa League was not good in England and I don’t really understand why,” said Klopp.

“The players have liked it, and I would have been happy with the Europa League even if we’d gone out in the quarter-finals. It was a nice journey, a good experience.

“Usually you work the whole year to go to Europe so to be in it was a nice bonus. I know the top four is the top four, but if you are fifth, take it, use it, do whatever. I like playing matches, whatever the competition.”

It has been just short of 26 years since the Reds last won the league, and with Klopp to have his first pre-season with the club this summer, he will be hoping to end that horrid run as soon as possible – looking to impose themselves on the league next season.

However, for now, the German is focused on ensuring Liverpool bring some silverware back to Anfield this season, in the form of the Europa League.
