The Dutchman has agreed terms to take over at Goodison Park

Everton are set to name Southampton boss Ronald Koeman as their new manager next week, after the 53-year-old agreed terms to take over at Goodison Park.

Southampton had hoped that they would be able to tempt the Dutchman to stay at St Mary’s for the long term, and were preparing to offer their boss a new deal, as he enters the final year of his contract.

However, with Farhad Moshiri having taken over at Everton in March, the financial resources that would be handed to Koeman were too great for him to turn down and has been enticed into starting a new and exciting project on Merseyside.

Although Koeman had seemed prepared to sign a new deal to keep him on the south coast, it is understood talks with Moshiri were successful, and are now in the process of completing the final details of deal with Southampton, before the appointment can be announced.

The former Ajax boss was reluctant to leave Southampton, after they gave him his chance to manage in the Premier League, but will now, instead, replace Roberto Martinez, who was sacked in May after a poor season saw the Toffees finish 11th.

“We have reached an agreement with Everton. Now, it’s up to the clubs.” Koeman’s agent Rob Jansen told Fox Sports.

Koeman is keen for the deal to be agreed sooner rather later, as he sets off for a week’s holiday next weekend, and is expected to start work immediately, upon his return.

Everton will have to pay up the remaining year of Koeman’s contract, which is understood to be around ÂŁ3.5 million.

Duncan Ferguson will remain a part of the club’s coaching set-up.
