Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has spoken of the similarities between his Foxes side and the Italian national team.

The Azzurri open their Eur0 2016 campaign this evening against Belgium

And Leicester chief Ranieri reckons they share the same belief, while also revealing that he was on the shortlist for the Italy job, before that went to Giampiero Ventura. Antonio Conte leaves the Azzurri post for Chelsea, Ranieri’s former employers, after the tournament.

Ranieri told Sky Sport Italia: “I saw the first few games and they were all very difficult, so I am convinced Italy will have a great Euros. I listened to what everyone said and can see a team spirit forming that is very similar to the one we have at Leicester.

“This is a real team and will fight to the very end.

“I was on a national team bench and it did not go well,”

“I am more of a man who works every day with his players. Does it take courage to remain at Leicester? No, it requires a taste for the challenge. I am very curious to see what happens next. We have a magnificent group, so I want to see what we can do once the other big English clubs are relaunched.”

Ranieri had a brief spell in charge of the Greek national side in 2014, but this disastrous spell was ended after just four months after a shock defeat to the Faroe Islands. He then took the Leicester job, and the rest is history.
