Liverpool have signed experienced goalkeeper Alex Manninger on a one-year deal.

The 39-year old Austrian has been on trial with the Reds and has been offered a short-term contract.

He has been training with Liverpool and has flown out to the USA with the squad to partake in their pre-season tour.

This means that the Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp has finally tied up a third-choice goalkeeper.

Pecking order

Manninger is expected to be down the pecking order at the Anfield club behind Lorius Karius and Simon Mignolet.

The former Arsenal shot-stopper will deputise as back-up whilst Karius and Mignolet battle for the number one spot.

Liverpool have parted ways with FOUR goalkeepers this summer, the first being Lawrence Vigouroux, who joined League One outfit Swindon Town on a permanent deal.

Whereas Adam Bogdan, Danny Ward and Ryan Fulton have joined Wigan Athletic, Huddersfield Town and Chesterfield on season-long loans respectively.
