Liverpool will be slight favourites heading into the second leg of their Europa League Quarter-Final tie with Borussia Dortmund after the two clubs played out a 1-1 draw tonight.
The main talking point since the draw was made was without doubt the return of Reds manager Jurgen Klopp to his former employers, where he is still held in high regard.
The pre-match atmosphere was absolutely electric, with fans of both clubs joining as one for a stirring rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, which both clubs use as their anthem.
There was only one change for Liverpool from the weekend draw with Tottenham, Divock Origi coming in for Daniel Sturridge.
For Dortmund,  holding midfielder Sven Bender was inserted into a central defensive berth alongside Mats Hummels.
The German club had the first real chance on fifteen minutes, Marco Reus firing wide on the half-Â volley. Reus then found Henrikh Mkhitaryan, denied by a fine block from Mamadou Sakho.
At the other end, James Milner set up Dejan Lovren, however the header proved no trouble for Roman Weidenfeller in the Dortmund goal.
Sakho was alert again on the half hour with another fine block, this time from a dangerous ball from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Six minutes later, Liverpool were ahead. Milner flicked the ball on to Origi, who held off the attentions of Lukasz Piszczek before shooting home.
Only another superb block, this time Lovren denying Aubameyang, kept the visitors in front heading into the break.
Three minutes into the second half, the scores were level. Mats Hummels headed in a Mkhitaryan cross to send the home fans into raptures.
Weldenfeller was then on top form to deny Philippe Coutinho, twice, and Nathaniel Clyne in quick succession.
The game then petered out into a draw, which Liverpool will gladly take back to Merseyside for what is sure to be a fascinating second leg.
