Liverpool have entered talks with Italian side Fiorentina over the sale of forward Fabio Borini.
The Serie A side are needing new striker after the sale of Mario Gomez to Besiktas of Turkey, and see Borini as a good fit.
Borini is not in the plans of Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, after a flop spell on loan at Sunderland last season.
Italian Borini has badly struggled for goals since arriving on Merseyside three years ago, scoring only three times.
And both the Reds and the Viola are thought to be after a permanent transfer, rather than a loan deal.
Sunderland were keen on Borini, but an offer from the Black Cats was turned down, with the striker preferring a return to Italy.
He has previously played for Parma and Roma, so will not be at all fazed be once again being in Serie A.
