Liverpool coach set for Rio move: potential Anfield return for Steven Gerrard?

Liverpool fans have been pining for a return of an Anfield legend since he left the club, and there may soon be a coaching role opening up for Steven Gerrard, should he want it.

Reds Under-23 coach Michael Beale is being strongly linked with a move to Brazilian side Sao Paulo, working under new manager Rogerio Ceni.

The Liverpool Echo claim that Beale has already travelled to Rio, to watch an Under-20s tournament.

After leaving Liverpool and trying his luck in the United States with Los Angeles Galaxy, Gerrard recently announced his retirement from playing.

He had been linked with the manager’s position at League One MK Dons, after the departure of Karl Robinson to Charlton Athletic. Gerrard, however, turned down the role, claiming it was ‘not the right time’ to take his first tentative steps into management.

Instead, a potential Merseyside return may well be on the cards, although it appears unlikely Gerrard would fill the position left by Beale. Instead he could be placed in charge at a lower level.
