Liverpool receive blow ahead of Chelsea clash

Liverpool’s preparations for their massive Premier League clash with Chelsea have taken a blow with the news that Sadio Mane is expected to miss the game.

It has not been a good week for the Anfield club, who suffered exits from both the EFL Cup and the FA Cup, losing to Southampton and Wolves respectively.

Now they have been dealt the news that influential Senegalese ace Mane is not expected to train today, effectively ruling him out of the game with the Premier League leaders.

Mane has been on international duty over the last month, representing his country in the African Cup of Nations. He missed from the spot as Senegal were beaten by Cameroon yesterday.

Liverpool had arranged a private jet, in an attempt to get Mane back to the club, and hopefully available.

But Sky Sports claim that it is set to be in vain, with Mane reportedly missing training today.

“Mane is due back from the African Nations Cup but it’s my understanding he’s unlikely to train with his team-mates today.” they reported.

“It means it effectively, at the very least, would rule out a starting role against Chelsea.”

They have struggled for any kind of form since Mane left, only winning one game since he left for international duty, after a 2-2 draw at Sunderland on 2 January.
