Loris Karius plays down title ambitions

Loris Karius has played down talk of a title tilt this season.

However, before Liverpool fans work themselves into a frenzy regarding their goalkeeper’s apparent lack of ambition, it is worth noting that he was actually referring to Manchester United and Tottenham’s ambitions.

Karius is a summer signing on Merseyside, and has played a key part in their successful campaign so far, which sees them just one point off the top of the Premier League table.

Karius is hoping Liverpool can stay there for the rest of the term, and sees Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City as the main opposition in the hunt for silverware.

When asked who could win the Premier League, Karius told German magazine Kicker: “Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and us.

“That quartet is standing eye-to-eye.

“Many thought City with Pep Guardiola would be the favourites, but Chelsea went on a brutal run recently.

“The direct duels could be decisive.

“It (the title) is a dream that is still far away.

“We’ve not made that our goal because if you do and finish second you’d think the season was a disappointment.

“Our goal is to play in the Champions League next term.”
