Manchester City’s chase for Kalidou Koulibaly is getting slower by the day.

The City board unlike the negotiators across town like to get their deals done fast. However, their pursuit of the Senegalese defender from Napoli has been dragging on forever now.

Koulibaly, who is now 29 years old has been at Napoli for the last few seasons, where he has developed into one of the best defenders in the world. His physical strength, technical ability, and sheer pace makes him the complete package to be a top level modern day centre back.

Napoli who had a ÂŁ100m demand price set for the player has brought it down to ÂŁ70m this season. However, City are not ready to meet the evaluation of Napoli as they believe to be higher than warranted for a defender who turns 30 next year.

Koulibaly would solve the last missing puzzle in the City defence. He would also bring in the much needed leadership lacking at the back since the departure of Vincent Kompany in 2019.

The signing of Nathan Ake at best provides City with versatility to their squad depth but the Dutch defender will have to improve his showing if Pep decides to opt out of the chase for Koulibaly!
