Aguero’s hat-trick inspired three big points for City

Chelsea’s 3-0 loss at home to Manchester City was revenge for their 5-1 hammering of the Sky Blues in the FA Cup, according to Manuel Pellegrini

City comfortably took three points back to the Etihad, as Aguero moved joint second in the Premier League scoring charts, with Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.

And the Chilean boss admitted that their FA Cup exit earlier in the year was in the back of their mind.

“I’m very satisfied, because I think our team played very well in attacking and defending, and when we have all our players fit and playing all of them together – I think it’s another team.” Pellegrini said.

“We knew before the game that Chelsea would always be a difficult team, but we also wanted the revenge for the FA Cup that we had to play here with a young team and they beat us 5-1.

“So I think that tonight was a complete game and three important points for the Premier League because we want to finish as near to the top of the league as we can.”

Simply the best

And Pellegrini heaped the praise on Aguero, who was decisive in Saturday’s late kick-off, moving City up to third – for a day at least – to ensure they maintained their four-point gap over local rivals Manchester United.

“I am sure he is the best striker in this league,” the Chilean added.

“It’s different when he’s playing every game, every week and he’s a very important player. It’s very strange that he’s played here so many years and he’s not been the best player in the league.”

A win for Arsenal on Sunday, against Crystal Palace, would move them back into third, three points behind second-placed Tottenham, who don’t play until Monday evening, away at Stoke.
