Pep Guardiola demands improvement from Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has expressed his dismay at some areas in his team’s 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday. Goals from Leroy Sane, David Silva and Raheem Sterling helped City continue their unbeaten run in the Premier League. Despite the convincing result, Guardiola was not happy with City’s passing.

The former Barcelona manager said, “My reaction is when they miss simple things – that is when I cannot handle myself. When a guy has a simple ball but they make an extra pass, an extra dodge and they miss the pass, I’m angry, I’m upset with my players. They know that, we spoke many times.

If they miss the goals or assists, I don’t care. If they are dribbling and lose the dribbling it doesn’t matter. But controlling the ball and passing simple, if they miss that… (on Saturday) there was many. That is why I am going to show them we can improve.”

Manchester City are currently third in the Premier League behind Chelsea and Liverpool. They next play their Champions League opener against Lyon at Manchester on Wednesday. This will be the first time that both clubs lock horns.

Lyon narrowly escaped a defeat against CAEN on Saturday thanks to a late equaliser by Ferland Mendy.
