Ivorian looks set to see out final year of his contract at the Etihad

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure will not be sold by the club this summer, with the Ivorian set to be a key part of new boss Pep Guardiola’s plans.

There has been much speculation about the 33-year-old’s future at the Etihad, with the player even tipped to leave the club last summer. However, speculation about Toure’s future has been brushed under the carpet by a source close to the player.

“The first thing Pep said to Yaya was that he will be a big player for him – on and off the pitch.” the source explained.

“Yaya is the only City player who has worked with Pep and he can help the rest of the squad understand the style of play that they will be asked to play.

“Yaya was happy to be told that he is part of the plan. He has never had a personal problem with Pep. In fact, when he was leaving Barcelona to join City, Pep told him that he wanted him to stay.”

Toure’s agent, Dimitri Seluk, confirmed earlier in the year that the player was certain to leave City this summer, when Guardiola was announced to take over at the Etihad, saying: “He’ll definitely leave Manchester City, I can calmly confirm that,”

Meanwhile, Inter Milan have continually shown an interest throughout last season, with Inter boss Roberto Mancini keen to reunite with the player he signed from Barcelona in 2010 for ÂŁ24 million.

The Ivorian was seemingly struggling with the demands of the Premier League last season, after having been a key player for Manchester City, since joining the club six years ago.

However, having enjoyed a successful spell at the Camp Nou with Barcelona, under Guardiola’s guidance, Toure will be vital in helping translate the Spanish boss’ methods to the rest of the squad.

The source added: “Yaya has had a very good summer to relax and he now feels refreshed and ready to show that he is still a great player.

“Maybe there were times when he went to sleep last season, but he is awake again and wants to spend the last year of his contract with City.”
