Daley Blind believes Manchester United have the strength in depth to compete for trophies

Manchester United defender Daley Blind reckons the club can compete for multiple trophies this season due to the strength in depth of their squad.

After a sluggish start to this season, which saw just one win in seven matches, Jose Mourinho’s men have slowly started to recapture the old United swagger shown under Sir Alex Ferguson, and are currently on a six-game winning streak.

The Red Devils are in the League Cup Semi-Finals, sit in sixth place in the Premier League, take on French side St Etienne in the Europa League when the competition resumes next month, and this weekend host Reading in the FA Cup Third Round.

Dutchman Blind believes United have the depth and talent needed to make a genuine challenge for at least one of those trophies.

Blind said: “It’s a very important period. We have a very fit squad and I think we need everyone because we have a lot of games.

“I think that competition for places makes the team stronger and stronger.

“Everyone wants to fight for his place and when the competition is high, you have to perform and you lift each other’s performances. It’s good for the team.”
